What Arocket List Members Are Doing

The aRocket discussion forum maintains 600 members representing 30 countries around the world. Approximately ten percent of them share the results of their research on the world wide web to the benefit of all. If you are an aRocketeer and your site isn't here (or the description needs updating) please let us know by posting to the aRocket discussion or e-mailing the web master. Civilian Experimental Rocketry Test Area CERTA is a new, non-profit organization dedicated to improving math, science and technology education through hands on experimentation with various phases of experimental rocketry. CERTA is negotiating for a lease on a phenomenal new launch site for experimental and amateur rocketeers. CERTA is applying for an initial, permanent 100,000 foot altitude waiver, with windows planned to 350,000 ft.

The SORAC Project was initiated in 1995 as a Civil Experimental Aerospace endeavor. The first goal is to place a totally non-government funded vehicle into internationally recognized space, 62 statute miles straight up.

AeroSpace Research is the only company in South Africa that designs and manufactures, High Power Rocketry components and propulsion systems.

JP Aerospace LLC is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to achieving cheap access to space through VERY low cost, innovative solutions.

The Portland State Aerospace Society is a non-profit (501c3) aerospace project at Portland State University in Portland working on active onboard guidance.

Pat and Izzy of aRocket worked very hard to bring Flyrockets.com and the associated TV ad online in very short notice. Congratulations for a job very well done!

Recrystallized Rocketry Specializing in Rcandy - propellant made from KNO3 and sugar by dissolving in water and drying in an oven. Does not require grinding or melting, and the resulting propellant has good mechanical strength and excellent molding properties. Site includes how-tos on making PVC motors, 38mm grains for reloadable casings, making motor tubes from scrap aluminum and tubing, a simple and functional static test stand, and an original water rocket design - cheap, easy and fun!

Structure is a company geared expressly towards Advanced Research and Analysis. They support the aerospace, defense, and marine industries with expert engineering in the fields of fluid-dynamics, structures, and advanced propulsion.

Dave Muesing is Mr. Fiberglass. He supplies fabrics, resins, core materials, tools, pigments and more for composite fabrication at a discount price.

Scott Bowers has recently put up his first web page, I look foward to seeing his site blossom with time.

Sacramento L5 Society a chapter of the National Space Society. Some of us are going even if we have to walk.

Dr. Al Differ organized Interworld Transport to work on projects that will lead to the construction, testing, and flying of real solar sails in space. He has supporting software projects, SailAway and Clados, at SourceForge.

Robert Galejs has done pioneering work developing a magnetic field based apogee sensor and wax-fueled hybrid motors.

Wedge Oldham has produced some of the most impressive HPR rockets to date. His 1/3 scale Nike Hercules and 107% scale Black Brant are very impressive, but I most look forward to seeing the 10X Estes Orbital Transport!

Brandon Fosdick has identified areas that are ripe for innovation in amateur rocketry and his web site is pursuing them as Open Source projects. His INS and Engineering Design Automation Tools are two things needed for Open Source Space to flourish.

Armadillo Aerospace is a small research and development team working on computer-controlled hydrogen peroxide rocket vehicles, with an eye towards X-Prize class vehicle development

The South African Amateur Rocketry group is organized by Johann Grobler and though still small, it seems to be gowing very quickly.

Albert Gassol has been working on a novel PVC hybrid that uses that uses PVC plumbing pipe for the tank and combustion chamber. The low-cost advantages are obvious: no machining required, minimal fragmentation hazard, inexpensive materials and ease of construction. Highly recommended!

A ham radio enthusiast, Garrett Waltrip is working on a recording altimeter using using an Amtel AVR microcontroller chip and a Hypertek M powered Level III attemp.

Jon Drayna maintains October Science, where he sells an informative and easy to use model rocket motor kit to introduce beginners to amateur rocketry.

R.A.T.T.Works (Rockets All The Time) under Dave Griffith, produces very elegant monocoque nitrous oxide hybrids.

Chris Winter has some thoughtful essays where he reviews the current state of the art and discusses future directions.

The goal of the Rocket Workbench Project is to develop open source, high quality, hardware and software tools and subsystems for the design and implementation of experimental rockets. The first Rocketworkbench projects were for opensource software. Rocketworkbench is now expanding into hardware projects asw well. For the software, using the most up to date rocket theory allows the programs to produce the most accurate results. Flexibility and portability between different platforms is a secondary objective.

NERO is the Dutch Federation for Rocket Research. The Federation consists of a number of amateur rocket clubs. Since 1959 these rocket clubs are involved in the development and construction of sounding rockets.

The da Vinci Project is Canada’s first entry in the X PRIZE Competition and is in a quest for the first manned, non-government private/commercial space flight.

Carsten Glans is a Swedish rocketeer; his site is devoted to model, high power and amateur rockets.

Earl Colby Pottinger is working on peroxide concentration for his rocket boat project.

Richard Nakka's Experimental Rocketry Site is simply the most thorough and detailed amateur rocktry site on the web. He publishes detailed results of his testing; quantifying each aspect of his new propellant development program. In addition to high quality design data on sugar/saltpetre propellants, he has downloadable sotware for design, and recovery.

The Rocketry Information Center is an online resource for showing the benefits rocketry brings to the United States of America, many aRocketeers are involved in the project.

Animal Motor Works produces large solid motors for serious HPR and amateurs. They also have a line of motors with colored flame.

Ozark Propulsion Labs produces some of the most sucessful large solid motors in the business.

Hobby Space has a lot more than hobbies, it is a wealth of space information gleaned from hundreds of sources and daily updates. Of particular interest to amateur and experimetnal rocketeers are the Advanced Rocketry News the Space Log and the RLV News.

The Docking Station is a repository of useful information, including the FORTRAN source code for ProPEP!

Aerocon Systems: Rocket Apparatus for Inventors and Experimenters

The International Experimental Aerospace Society (IEAS) is a much needed global network supporting amateur and civil experimental aerospace development. Their website provides online news, event and sales information, along with interactive discussion forums and member contact information. In a nutshell, everything needed to keep informed about the fast-growing experimental aerospace society.

Thomas Janstrom is quite the craftsman. Not only does he blacksmith, he built his own telescope, and has also built his own Gingery lathe, casting the components from scrap in a home-made forge while sharing his progress with us all on the web! Must see!

Hans Olaf Toft’s Amateur Rocketry Links Library is the most complete, organized and far-ranging index of information availible to the amateur rocketry researcher. Highly recommended!

One of the most highly polished rocket sites out there, Greg Deputy’s Blastzone also hosts the aRocket archives and uploads. Thanks, Greg!

Rocket Research has something for everybody. Solids, hybrids, ramjets, testing, cryogenics, communications, parachutes and more can be found on their site, I just wish they had more!

New Zealand Rocketry is a site by two teens intent on breaking their country's altitude record with a sugar "M" class boosted dart to over 26,000 ft.

Ky Michaelson, "The Rocketman" has piloted rocket dragsters, snowmobiles and attempted three unmanned space shots in recent years. He also sells high quality recovery parachutes.

Antoine Lefebvre is working on the development of solid propellant rocket motors and manages the Open Source Rocket Workbench Project creating high quality simulation software to model rocket flight and motor thermodynamics. The Rocket Workbench Project is also active in developing the aRocket Ignitor Project.

Korey Kline’s Environmental Aeroscience Corporation is a leading hybrid R&D firm, specializing in nitrous oxide motors. They created the Hypertek and Hyperion systems.

Cesaroni Technology Incorporated brings you Hypertek hybrid motors and the Hyperion sounding rockets, as well as some interesting insights on aRocket from time to time.

Scott's Experimental Rocketry site has a bit of everything. Solid, hybrid, ignition, testing, recovery and more are documented. Great Stuff!

Michael Dilsaver’s AmateurRocket.net showcases some innovative technology for amateurs. Ultralightweight hydroformed bulkheads and crimped closures are showing great promise of lowering costs while increasing performance in Mike's lab.

The Rocketry Information Center was created to be a central gathering point to combat advancing federal regulation of rocketry and it does a very good job!

Thomas is a Medical Student in Germany testing his liquid biprop powered by 50% peroxide and catalyzed (potassium permanganate) alcohol. His progress can be seen at his site.

A frequent NASA development contractor, John’sWickman Spacecraft & Propulsion Company; CP Technologies and Rocket Camp feature Low Cost propellant and nozzle materials to make some of the largest solid motors fired by aRocketeers.

More than any other site out there, Michael Mealing’s Rocketforge has grasped the goal of aRocket and has breathed new life into it. The site features a commented story bulletin board, a user modifiable open web discussion aRocket Wiki a real-time aRocket discussion via IRC and hosts the aRocket collaborative project. Way to go Michael!

Inverse Engineering has taken the phrase "Build a Little, Fly a Little" to heart. Very few aRocketeers have documented as many tests as Dan has accomplished in so short a time!

Trailer trash aerospace is a group of high-power and experimental rocket enthusiasts in the desert southwest building magnificent things with the thinnest of resources.

The oldest source of amateur rocketry information on the web, T.J. Patterson’s Rocketry.Org has discussion boards, useful downloads and a great collection of useful links!

Then there is this bit of insanity, committed by the web master, Anne (who should probably be committed).
